“My bones will rise again.” — Nehanda Nyakasikana, just before her execution by British forces in 1898.
🔍 Who Was She?
Nehanda Nyakasikana (c. 1863–1898) was not just a revolutionary. She was a Chimurenga medium—a living conduit of ancestral power—who led her people, the Shona of Zimbabwe, in the First Chimurenga (War of Liberation) against the British South Africa Company.
She was possessed by the ancestral spirit Mbuya Nehanda, a revered female spirit (mhondoro) believed to guard the land and its sovereignty. The British viewed her as a threat not merely because she resisted their rule, but because she mobilized a population spiritually, politically, and cosmologically.
🌍 What Was Her Role in AST?
Nehanda was an active practitioner of African Spiritual Technology—that is, a system that integrates:
Communication with the ancestral plane
Land-based spiritual governance
Ritual leadership and symbolic warfare
Encoded oral knowledge, songs, and prophecy
In AST terms, Nehanda functioned as a spiritual processor, transmitting ancestral instruction into political action. Her role was not metaphorical; it was literal. She channeled commands from the spirit world that organized material resistance in the physical realm.
Her utterance, “my bones shall rise again”, was not mere poetry. It was an encrypted AST prophecy—a metaphysical activation code for future awakenings.
🔥 AST and the War on Colonization
The colonizers did not simply target Nehanda as a rebel; they executed her as a threat to the cosmological order they sought to impose.
Missionaries denounced her as a “witch.”
British soldiers feared her spiritual influence more than her physical army.
The colonial state made an example of her, but inadvertently immortalized her spirit.
What they feared was African Spiritual Sovereignty—the power to organize society not through guns or politics, but through ancestral consent, sacred ritual, and land-centered spirituality.
This is the essence of AST:
The ability to align society with higher metaphysical frequencies to resist domination—not just politically, but cosmologically.
✊🏾 Why Nehanda Matters Today
In our time, as we speak of decolonizing the African mind, reclaiming indigenous knowledge, and resurrecting sacred systems, Nehanda returns—not as a ghost, but as a node in the reawakening of our Sacred Operating System.
Her legacy tells us:
Resistance must be spiritually anchored.
True liberation includes epistemic freedom—freedom of how we know, pray, organize, and relate to the land.
AST is not superstition. It is a liberation protocol—as real, structured, and powerful as any system of governance or technology.
