THE NAME CHANGE WE’VE ALWAYS FOUGHT FOR:KWAME NKRUMAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Kwame Nkrumah International Airport | PowerAfrika

Our position is clear. Kotoka must go. Nkrumah must be honored.

We launched this campaign years ago because a nation’s gateway should honor its founder, not the man who overthrew him. The name Kotoka International Airport is not neutral. It is a daily reminder of February 24, 1966 – the day a CIA‑backed coup murdered Ghana’s future and infected the continent with coup culture.

Now that the conversation is shifting – now that even those who once defended the name are retreating – we must be absolutely clear: the new name must be Kwame Nkrumah International Airport.

Not Accra International. Not a compromise. Not geography. A founder.

Kwame Nkrumah built modern Ghana. Akosombo. Tema. The universities. The vision of a united Africa. Every Ghanaian alive today walks on infrastructure he built, learns in schools he created, votes in a republic he founded. To name our gateway after anyone else – or after nothing at all – would be an act of historical amnesia.

This is not a petition. This is a position. We do not ask you to sign; we ask you to act.
